Begonias are ideal for flower borders, beds and containers and also make a great houseplant.

Plant preferably in a moist, semi-shaded place, although they will bloom in full sun in a moisture retentive soil. Begonias flourish in all types of containers as well as in the garden.

Use rich garden soil with good drainage.

For early flowering place tubers, close together, level with the surface in trays containing a mixture of damp peat and sant. Plant hollow part uppermost.

Try and maintain a temperature of 7 - 16C. Plant outdoors once the danger of frost has passed. Keep soil moist and remove faded flowers. Lift tubers at the end of the growing season, cut stems just above the tuber and keep them in dry sand or peat during winter at 4-10C.
