1 Elephant Garlic Bulb (spring planting)

These Elephant garlic bulbs will produce great large garlic with a sweet and mild flavour.

Plant in Spring.

Garlic requires a free-draining, fertile soil in a sunny position. Thoroughly dig over the site with a fork, removing any weeds. Adding a general fertiliser will improve yields.

Mark out a row using a string line or cane. If the garlic is in whole bulbs, break them into cloves before planting. Plant the individual cloves 3cm deep and 10cm apart along the row. Label the row with the variety name.

Keep the soil moist during the growing period. Remove any weeds which otherwise will compete with the garlic for food and water.

In late summer/early autumn the leaves will start to die down. Lift the garlic out of the soil and leave on the surface to ripen for a few days. When dry, store in a light airy position, dry and frost free.

Garlic is said to deter many garden pests.
